The Celtic support dusted down their repertoire of old during Wednesday’s win over Dundee United.

But it was Brendan Rodgers’ current crop who were on song as they swept past Jim Goodwin’s team. The Green Brigade saw the funny side as they responded to Rodgers’ blast at Kieran Tierney chants last week by serenading a list of former Hoops heroes. And Neil Renton, Leith, said: “While it’s quite funny Celtic fans sang songs about former players when they faced Dundee United, the sad fact is the icons they chanted about could probably still play for the Hoops against the current top flight.

“We’re almost at the stage where the Parkhead outfit could field a seniors team and they’d walk the league.” But Sean McGarvey, Cumbernauld, said: Hopefully Brendan, aka Mr If-He-Was-Chocolate-He-Would-Eat-Himself, got the message during the win over United after the chants for Henrik Larsson and Charlie Mulgrew. Stick to managing the team and let the people sing.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, added: “Another routine win for the champions elect! Not bad when so many Rangers fans think they’re the biggest and best club in Scotland! I look forward to the excuses when they drop more points in the weeks to come!”

But John Caw wasn’t quite so impressed with some of the Celts on show, asking: “How can Brendan can stand for an hour suffering Adam Idah and Hyunjun Yang before substituting them? Is he a masochist?” But Rangers fan Chris Lowe, Yoker, wasn’t impressed by Tangerines gaffer Jim Goodwin’s team selection at Celtic Park.

He said: “Goodwin drops five players including the league’s top scorer Sam Dalby for the visit to his beloved Parkhead. Old foe Kevin Clancy, ably assisted by Alan Mulvanny on VAR, dismiss a clear penalty for United early in the game and astonishingly doesn’t book any Celtic players despite multiple fouls. Is there any point playing games as it’s a loaded dice week after week for one club.”

Kyogo Furuhashi replaces Adam Idah

James Forsyth, Bellshill, had eyes down south on Wednesday night as ref Stuart Attwell made history with his announcement to the crowd during Spurs’ Carabao Cup win over Liverpool. He said: “Just watching Spurs v Liverpool – the Tottenham goal was disallowed by VAR and the ref explained the decision to the crowd Immediately. Is this the way forward for VAR?”

Robert Burns, meanwhile, was delighted to hear the BBC are in talks to show Scotland games on a free-to-air basis, saying: “Scotland Internationals on cooncil telly! Hope they dinnae clash wi’ Dr.Who. Al be shoving’ the weans oot the road, tae hide ahent the sofa when it’s on!”

The national team might be soon be back on the box but Rangers supporter Peter Cooperwhite disagrees with Record Sport’s Tam McManus that Hibs defender Rocky Bushiri has silver-screen potential He said: “So Tam McManus reckons Bushiri is made of Hollywood stuff. He was in the heart of a defence that allowed Hamza Igamane to score three goals but redeems himself to score an equaliser against Rangers.

“But as far as I know this season, he’s scored just twice and has one assist, hardly big screen entertainment. Hold on, it was against Rangers. Ah, it seems if any player scores against us, they are deserving of star billing.

“Look at the St Mirren players, the Kilmarnock players. They beat us and then go on a winless run. As Jimmy Greaves would say, football is a funny old game. He’s right, the Scottish Premiership is hilarious.”

Last word goes to Scott McAdam, Glasgow, who said: “It’s very quiet on the Rangers front. Not about the football because the champions are motoring on.

“No it’s all gone hush about the halfwit who hit Arne Engels with the coin. Someone knows who the culprit is to do the decent thing and tell the police. We don’t need this nonsense in our game.”
