Cheryl has been through a lot the last few months after the death of her ex partner, and son’s dad Liam Payne and has now been left shaken after being stalked by a convicted killer.
Daniel Bannister, who was sentenced to 30 months in prison in 2012 for killing a man at a homeless hostel, recently showed up at her Buckinghamshire home, causing the star “serious alarm”.
The 49-year-old exhibited “displaying fixated, obsessive, unwanted and repetitive behavior” towards the single mother. In September, he was sentenced to four months in jail for an offence committed in July and was given a three-year restraining order prohibiting him from contacting Cheryl, entering Buckinghamshire, or visiting her residence, writes The Mirror.
Last month, court documents disclosed that he returned to the home she shares with her seven-year-old son, Bear Payne – the child she shared with the late One Direction star Liam Payne.
Bannister has since been charged with violating his restraining order by entering Buckinghamshire on Dec. 10.
Bannister is said to have showed up at “an address where you knew or believed Cheryl Tweedy was present,” which constitutes another breach of his order.
The man also tried to reach out to the “Fight For This Love” singer, either directly or indirectly, despite being previously prohibited from doing so.
Reports in The Sun say that Bannister admitted guilt to three separate offences in December and has since been incarcerated, awaiting sentencing on January 30.
In 2023, Cheryl made her debut in the West End production of “2:22 A Ghost Story,” and it is reported that her team was reportedly on “red alert” after she received unsettling messages accompanied by flowers outside the theatre.
In 2012, Bannister confessed to manslaughter at Kingston Crown Court following an assault on Rajendra Patel at a south London YMCA homeless shelter.
After an attack in February of the same year, Mr. Patel was readmitted to the hospital on March 9 and tragically passed away the next day. His death was attributed to a fracture in his left ankle, pulmonary thromboembolism, and deep vein thrombosis of the left femoral vein.
At the time, Bannister was set to stand trial for Mr. Patel’s murder, but the CPS reduced the charge to manslaughter. It is thought that the two men, who were both residents of the homeless shelter, had been engaged in a long-standing feud when the assault occurred, writes The Mirror.
Bannister could be seen kicking and punching his victim as he tried to approach an elevator in CCTV presented in court.
Speaking about the case in 2012, His Honour Judge Nicholas Price remarked as he put Bannister behind bars: “This is a tragic case. When you attacked Mr Patel you did not intend to cause serious bodily harm let alone cause death. But the attack undoubtedly goes beyond one punch, it is a sustained attack or more or less 30 to 40 seconds. It is clear you are not a danger to the public, but it is inevitable that you must serve an immediate custodial sentence.”
Cheryl’s representatives have been contacted for a statement.
