Gemma Collins, known for her iconic curves, has unveiled a striking body transformation this new year, confessing to her fans she’s been harbouring a “secret”. On Instagram, the noticeably svelte Gemma said she’s entering the year two dress sizes down and envisions a life where she is free to “live her best life” without the burden of ongoing weight loss struggles.
The television personality caused quite a stir among her 2.2 million followers when she disclosed her partnership with a company named Yazen, which provides prescription weight-loss injections and constant medical support. “I will finally be free,” she declared.
“I will finally be able to live my best life and just be free from all that upset and stress and turmoil that comes with constantly trying to lose excess weight.”
Starting a new chapter with medication GLP-1 weight loss injections listed by Yazen on its website was a decision Gemma made after “every diet her whole life” failed to give her lasting results, despite witnessing success around her. Although her new medication-based diet plan surprised many fans, an insider told OK!
magazine that Gemma’s drastic switch has been in the pipeline for some time, reports the Mirror.
“Gemma’s tried almost every diet going and nothing has ever really worked for her, but she’s always said she wants to be healthy,” the source revealed. “She isn’t just focused on how she looks, this is about her wanting to be as healthy as possible and feel confident.”
Gemma, who is set to celebrate her 44th birthday at the end of this month, has been vocal over the years about her various weight loss methods. These have included getting a “hypno gastric band” from a hypnotist, enduring a juice-only diet retreat for a month, and following a strict fibre-rich diet which she claims once helped her shed 20lbs in just a week.
In recent years, Gemma’s updates on health and fitness have become a regular occurrence, often showcasing her exercise routines in the garden of her Essex barn conversion. The reality star is said to have lost approximately three stone between 2019 and 2024, and has even spoken about the possibility of trying for a baby with her fiance Rami Hawash.
However, according to our insider, Gemma’s commitment to tackling her weight issues stems purely from a desire to improve her wellbeing and happiness, not vanity or appearance. The source stated, “it isn’t about looking good on her wedding day or anything, she’s doing this for herself.”
While many of Gemma’s supporters have praised her transformed appearance including her updated hairstyle with a feathered fringe some followers expressed cynicism. One commented, “Here we go – another celebrity joining the trend.”
Another predicted, “As soon as you stop you put it all back ON.”
Other fans were left wondering about the fate of Gemma’s recent focus on a fibre-heavy diet, which she credited last summer as a significant factor in her weight loss journey while partnering with Steve Bennett, the author of ‘The Fibre First Diet’.
Gemma, who became engaged to Rami just over a year ago, has stated she is working with Yazen to “manage her weight responsibly” through approved medication and a comprehensive support team including doctors, psychologists, dieticians, and more.
While the results are visibly impressive, nutritionist and personal trainer Niki Woods has warned that those considering GLP-1 injections should think carefully about the effects on their body.
“Any way of eating which drastically reduces your calorie intake – and especially anything which reduces it dramatically below your needs – is likely to lead to significant loss of lean muscle,” she advised.
“Anyone using GLP-1 injections (or any other weightloss method) should focus on the quality of their nutrition, especially ensuring they get enough protein, and should weight train following a regular, progressive programme, to ensure they’re giving their body the best chance to preserve precious muscle.”
However, an insider insists that Gemma has thoroughly researched and considers the medication to be more of a transformative solution rather than a fleeting fix.
“She’s done all her research and she’s doing it properly with people around her who know what they’re talking about,” they said. “Problems arise for some when they don’t take the injections under proper guidance and expert help, but Gemma’s got it all in hand and has really thought it through.”
“She’s still absolutely all about body positivity and embracing her body, there’s no change in that, but she wants to be healthy as well.”
In her video, Gemma candidly discussed the emotional impact of her past dieting experiences, revealing years of “being bullied and tortured” over her looks.
“I feel like a massive weight’s been lifted off my shoulders because I’ve finally found something that works for me…. The struggle is real. Only if you’re overweight do you know the struggle, you know the downfalls, you know what you go through.”
