Residents in and around Wishaw who have concerns about heating their home are invited to an event at the NCT Centre in Newmains.

Non-profit organisation, The Wise Group, will be holding a Home Heat Surgery in the centre on Thursday, January 16, from 1pm to 3.30pm.

Wise have supported over 85,000 households to break the cycle of poverty at home, at work, and in the community every year; provided support to manage fuel debt and access hardship funding and provided advice and tips on how to manage energy sustainably.

Writing on its Facebook page, the NCT Centre states: “Pop along and speak to the team about your energy use, switching supplier, accessing crisis support and general energy advice.

“The Wise Group are also able to support families with children in Newmains who may be struggling, and can provide support with access to benefits, mental and physical health signposting, employability, digital skills and more.

“This is such a valuable service available to families in Newmains, please make use of the help available. Get in touch with a member of staff for more information or pop along on the 16th.”

Last week, the Wishaw Press reported that households were being urged to submit meter readings to their energy supplier as soon as possible due to the new Ofgem price cap coming into force.

The latest change, from £1,717 to £1,738 on January 1, represents a 1.2 per cent increase on the current level.

Those with smart meters should ensure the device is working.
