Emmerdale seems to be gearing up for a dramatic storyline with suspicions that they will kill off two treasured characters, leaving fans less than pleased.

Ruby Fox-Miligan (played by Beth Cordingly) saw her world flipped on its head after the unexpected visit of her estranged father Anthony (portrayed by Nicholas Day) to the village on the ITV soap.

His arrival closely followed that of her daughter Steph (played by Georgia Jay). As Anthony grew accustomed to village life, Ruby began to unravel, hinting at a dark secret concerning her father.

This turmoil led Ruby into infidelity, as she cheated on Caleb (William Ash) with his half-brother Cain (Jeff Hordley). The plot thickened when it was revealed that Ruby had been sexually abused by Anthony during her childhood and speculation arose suggesting Anthony might be Steph’s biological father.

Lately, in a confiding moment with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), Ruby grappled with the uncertainty of Steph’s paternity but stopped short of admitting her fears that her own father could be the culprit, reports Leeds Live.

In a further twist, Ruby decided to get a DNA test to determine if Caleb could be ruled out as the father. Fans though are convinced that Emmerdale has dropped hints pointing towards the grim fate of both Ruby and Caleb.

An endearing scene earlier this week where Ruby and Caleb reminisced and danced to ‘their song’ on the radio. Caleb nostalgically recounted to Steph how he and Ruby used to steal moments together: “There we were, me and your mum, playing tunes like this and sneaking around. Hiding in corners and well several things lead to several other things.”

Anthony suddenly appeared and observed the scene, before Caleb noticed him and made a reference to Antony, stating: “And you know what? It was all to avoid the disapproval of someone not a million miles from here.”

Anthony then interjected with a joke: “I guess you were the modern day Romeo and Juliet,” to which Caleb concurred. However, fans have interpreted Anthony’s remark as a foreshadowing of Caleb and Ruby’s demise.

“My prediction is that Caleb and Ruby die, clue is ‘the modern day Romeo and Juliet’,’ said one person on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page. Another person concurred: “I thought exactly the same.”

Meanwhile, a third fan echoed these sentiments on X, writing: “Erm ‘Modern day Romeo and Juliet’ comment in tonight’s Emmerdale…” “That better not be a hint to Caleb and Ruby both dying later this year. Ruby is one of the best things to happen to Emmerdale in a long time, so I’ll be raging,” they added.
