You simply can’t top a scrumptious sandwich. Be it stuffed with cheese, ham, tuna – or any filling of your choice – they’re always a hit.
But you might be intrigued to learn that even our King has his own sandwich preferences. Indeed, reports suggest King Charles is quite particular about how he enjoys his sandwiches.
A Royal expert on TikTok, known as matta_of_fact, shared that palace chefs are bound by certain guidelines when preparing the King’s sandwiches. It seems King Charles favours picnic sandwiches, which must be prepared in a very specific manner.
The content creators decided to give the recipe a go themselves to see just how simple it is. Allegedly, the King’s Head Chef has disclosed the components of the Royal sandwich, starting with a wheat roll that must be “exactly” 8cm across.
The recipe also calls for mayonnaise, pesto, and lettuce for layering inside the sandwich. This is then crowned with an egg fried with a pinch of salt, but crucially retaining its circular shape, reports Aberdeen Live.
Next comes the Gruyère cheese, with two slender slices laid atop, while the other half of the bun is generously “slathered” with butter and Marmite. Once assembled, the bun should be pressed down firmly to create the ideal petite sandwich.
Upon sampling, the hosts conceded it was “not bad”, appearing to relish the taste. As they continued to indulge, they acknowledged it was “really good”, suggesting it might be even more delightful if crafted by a professional.
They gave it a solid eight out of ten rating.
Since the video was posted, it’s racked up more than 5,000 views, sparking a flurry of comments from viewers charmed by the content. One viewer gushed: “How cute is this? I love that he found this recipe.”
Another enthused: “As a British tea sandwich lover, you smashed it! Find it funny that apparently the King doesn’t eat lunch ever.”
A third chimed in: “I need an entire video on Royal products please.”
And a fourth added: “Don’t know about the sandwich, but you two are adorable.”
