AUSTIN, Texas — As winter weather impacts parts of Texas, some travelers across the state are also being affected.
On Thursday, more than a dozen flights from Austin to Dallas were canceled amid a storm system expected to bring at least 3 inches of snow to North Texas.
According to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s (ABIA) website, 11 American Airlines flights to the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW) were canceled. At the same time, four Southwest Airlines destinations to the Dallas Love Field Airport were also called off.
Meanwhile, six American Airlines flights from DFW to ABIA were canceled on Thursday.
The cancellations come just one day before the Texas Longhorns are set to face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl Classic. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, with no setbacks as of Thursday.
“North Texas highways are already being brined and plans are in place to assure a safe environment for everyone in and around AT&T Stadium on game day,” the stadium and Cotton Bowl Classic said.
The Longhorns arrived in Dallas by bus on Wednesday, before significant snowfall hit the area. Ticket prices also decreased by at least $200 ahead of the snowstorm.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect until Friday afternoon in the Dallas area, which could also impact roadways heading toward the city’s airports.
Those driving to Dallas might want to consider packing an emergency supply kit, complete with items such as ice scrapers, flashlights, blankets, water and flares.
