Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell was delighted with new signing Kai Andrews, but says players will only follow him in the door if they’re worth it.

The Fir Park gaffer is absolutely not looking to make up the numbers, and will only sign those that are ready to make a contribution.

But he was pleased with the impact that Coventry City loanee Andrews made in last night’s 0-0 Premiership draw at Kilmarnock, when the young midfielder climbed off the bench late on.

Kettlewell said: “I’m delighted for Kai. It was a bit of a whirlwind, he was chucked in at the deep end, at a point again when we weren’t doing particularly well in the game yesterday.

“I thought he, personally, showed up reasonably well. He had a couple of good moments in the game, he turned it over, he had a couple of bursts forward.

“That’s a tough place to go and play football at any stage, let alone when you’ve just had a couple of hours with your new team-mates.

“I was pleased for him, pleased to get him on the pitch at the earliest opportunity for him to experience that.

“In terms of trying to bring anybody else in, it’s only going to be whether it filters into our structure here, and only going to be if I think it’s something that will give us a wee bit added quality and strength and depth.

“I’m not looking, at this point, at bringing in players for the sake of bringing them in.”

Kettlewell says he’s not looking to lighten his squad either, but nobody coming back from injury is likely to make the trip to face Hibs at Easter Road on Saturday.

When asked if anybody was expected to leave, Kettlewell said: “Not at this stage, no.

“There is nothing added to our group than what we had last night.”
