Naga Munchetty was left a tad embarrassed during Thursday’s edition of BBC Breakfast as she chatted about the Royal Mail’s new stamps honouring The Vicar of Dibley.

Her colleague Nina Warhurst noted that there will be 12 special stamps celebrating iconic moments from the much-loved sitcom, and as they viewed the collection on-screen, Nina remarked on how long ago the sitcom first aired.

Nina commented: “Looking at that Naga, it’s the kind of show where I go, ‘Oh, it was only a few years ago’. But no, it was such a long time ago!” Naga agreed that time seems to fly by and shared an aside about fellow presenter Carol Kirkwood.

Naga observed: “We’re already at the time where we stop saying Happy New Year, apparently. I don’t think I’ve said it to Carol, though.” Nina was surprised, retorting: “Have you not? ! Shame on you.”

In her defence, Naga replied: “I don’t think so. I haven’t seen her!” Nina suggested Naga could have messaged Carol with New Year’s greetings, which Naga acknowledged.

When the baton was passed to Carol for the weather update, the veteran forecaster confirmed that Naga had indeed messaged her, saying: “You did message me Naga! And Happy New Year again to you both.”

As the weather report concluded, with a heads-up that colder temperatures were expected, Naga appeared to recall their earlier exchange, reports the Express.

She reassured her co-star with a smile: “I did see the message! I checked, and we did send a message very early on New Year’s Day.”

Nina couldn’t resist teasing Naga, jokingly remarking: “I’m sure you’re not the only one who can’t remember everything about the morning of New Year’s Day.” With a playful grin, Nina chuckled lightly as Naga quickly transitioned to the next segment of the programme.

Typically, Naga hosts Thursday’s show alongside Charlie Stayt, her male colleague. Nevertheless, he was noticeably absent from his usual position, with Nina filling in for him.

While the show made no mention of his absence, a number of viewers expressed their delight at having the duo of female presenters on the couch.

On Twitter, an enthused viewer commented: “Nina and Naga, now there’s a very nice two some indeed, need to be presenting more often together, tbh. More anchor women presenting these shows on a regular basis would be to one’s liking, marvellous, neat and pleasant in fact.”

Another chimed in saying: “Hi Naga and Nina. What a wonderful surprise to see you two lovely ladies on the red sofa this morning. Thank you for bringing us the news and have a great day ahead. Love our BBC.”
