Scots Olympic hero Duncan Scott swapped the pool for pulling pints this week as he made a flying visit to a Stirling pub.

The Stirling University swimmer made a big splash last summer when he became Scotland’s greatest ever Olympian. He then capped off a glittering year by being awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List last week.

Scott, 27, sealed a memorable gold medal in pool in Paris last summer in the men’s 4×200 metre freestyle relay, alongside fellow Brits James Guy, Tom Dean, and Matt Richards. He also claimed silver in the men’s 200 metre individual medley event.

His summer exploits took his Olympic tally to a whopping eight medals – making him the first British swimmer to win multiple medals at three successive Olympic Games.

The Alloa-born swimmer is now the third most decorated British Olympian ever.

He this week was spotted at a popular historic Stirling pub. He made a visit to the City Walls, located on The Back Walk, and even posed for a photo behind the bar.

The pub shared the snap on its social media accounts on Wednesday, saying: “Olympic gold medallist Duncan Scott popped into City Walls today for a visit. Amazing achievement for him and Scotland should be proud. Thanks for letting us get a photo!”

The popular watering hole takes its name from the pub’s access point – through the city wall itself. Revellers heading to the pub enter through an archway through Stirling’s 16th-century defences into what was once an ironmongers’ warehouse.

Speaking after the announcement of his OBE last week, a delighted Scott told of his pride over the honour for services to swimming.

He said: “I’m truly humbled to be recognised in the New Year Honours list.

“This OBE is not just mine; it’s a reflection of the amazing support and dedication of my team and the swimming community.

“2024 was an incredible year, and I couldn’t be prouder to start 2025 with this honour.”
