Cyclists in Motherwell and Wishaw are being urged to register their bikes on a national database so they can be reunited with them if they are lost or stolen.

The Bike Register database contains the details of tens of thousands bicycles from across the UK and for the last year Police Scotland has had access to the database via a downloadable app on mobile devices.

Registering on BikeRegister means you could be reunited with your bike in the event of it being stolen, but it does not help make it a hard target to thieves. To reduce the chances of you becoming a victim of cycle theft, you can purchase one of the following Security Kits.

Police officers in Lanarkshire are hosting a free bike marking event next to the boathouse at Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwell.

The event takes place on Friday, January 10, from 11am to 1pm.
