Chocolate lovers will already know which well-loved Cadbury product was nowhere to be found over Christmas. One of the brand’s most popular products missing on shelves up and down the UK after it was recalled due to “quality issues”

Mondelez International, which owns Cadbury, confirmed that they identified a “food quality issue” in some tubs of their hot chocolate powder at the end of last year, which meant “the texture and colour of the product may not look as expected”.

They said: “As a result, we have swiftly withdrawn affected products from retailers, to make specific improvements to future production.”

Angry customers shared photos on social media of “unusual” white flecks in their hot chocolate powder, even though Cadbury assured their products were “safe to consume”. Some shoppers even claimed to have found “mould” in their Cadbury Drinking Chocolate.

On X, one disappointed customer said: “I found what looked like mould in a new tin of Cadbury hot chocolate.” Another user tweeted: “This happened to me twice now. Two brand new tubs bought at separate times. Disgusting!”

Another chocoholic experienced a similar attack of surprise mould, and said: “Little fuzzy moulds growing in what was a sealed tall tub of hot chocolate powder with a best before date in 2026, and the powder has suspiciously vanished from all stores so I can’t replace it.”

Cadbury UK said in a reply on X: “Hi there. We are aware of an issue with our current supply of Cadbury Hot Chocolate, however they are still completely safe to consume. “If you are unsatisfied, please do get in contact with our customer service team.”

“That’s fuzzy mould,” the user tweeted back. “[Cadbury’s customer service] asked for pictures and then stopped replying.”

As reported on MailOnline, having Cadbury products that are “consistently high-quality” is of “paramount importance”, a spokesperson from Mondelez told FEMAIL. They added: “We identified a food quality issue in Cadbury Drinking Chocolate products late last year, meaning in some instances the texture and colour of the product may not have looked as expected, and the product was swiftly withdrawn from retailers.

“Whilst this was a quality issue – meaning all existing Hot Chocolate products are completely safe to consume – the consistency of our products is vitally important to us.

“Should anyone not be fully satisfied with the quality of a Cadbury Drinking Chocolate product they purchased, we’d ask them to contact our consumer care team for assistance.”

After the recall, Mondelez International confirmed that the product had started being restocked to major retailers in December.
