Lanarkshire residents are being warned to be aware of ‘frost-jacking’ after a spate of car thefts across the county today.
Police have renewed an appeal to motorists to stay vigilant and not to risk leaving vehicles unattended while defrosting.
The warning comes after four incidents of frost-jacking in the area this morning.
Three vehicles were stolen on Brankholm Brae and Whitecraig Gardens in Hamilton and in Coll, East Kilbride.
There was also an attempted theft of a vehicle on Burn Road, Chapelton.
Police say enquiries are ongoing.
These latest incidents come after Lanarkshire Live told how the 66-year-old owner of a BMW bravely tried to chase down a thief who made off in his £15,000 convertible after he left the engine running to defrost the frozen car parked in his driveway.
The black BMW 4 series convertible was stolen from Glen Farg, East Kilbride at around 1.20pm on Friday, January 3.
Just five days later, cops traced the car to a residential street in Blantyre – five miles from the owner’s home.
A spokesperson said: “Please be aware of frost-jacking. Several cars have been stolen across Lanarkshire this morning.
“Leaving your car unlocked and unattended with the engine running is a temptation for opportunist thieves, and could invalidate your insurance if your vehicle is stolen or damaged.”
