A Wishaw kids charity is urging Lanarkshire residents to sign up to this year’s Kiltwalk in support of their work with helping kids with life-limiting illnesses.
Once again, volunteers from the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation will be tackling both the 20 miles and 14 mile treks later this year to raise funds for the charity.
Last year, more than 30 people took part to raise money for DreamMaker but the charity’s co-ordinator Angela Cook is hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.
She said: “This year, we’re taking part in the Kiltwalk on Sunday, April 27, to raise funds for our wee DreamMakers and their families that are affected by life-threatening illnesses.
“Every step we take will help provide support, and hope to those who need it most.
“But we can’t do it alone. We need your support to make a real difference
“We have a limited amount of 50% off codes which means sign up is only £10! All we ask is you raise a minimum of £100.
“Let’s come together to make a powerful impact. Every step we take is a step closer to a brighter future for those fighting life-threatening conditions.
“If we have enough people signed up we will also be running a bus to the Kiltwalk.
“We had over 30 people support us last year but we are always aiming for more and any help would be greatly appreciated.”
At last year’s Glasgow event, more than 14,100 kind-hearted Kiltwalk heroes were on the streets of the country’s biggest city to raise much-needed funds for 900 Scottish charities including the DreamMaker Foundation who had a 30-strong squad raising cash.
Another 4,000 heroes trekked the 14 miles from Three Queens Square Clydebank to Balloch and 2,600 Kiltwalkers took on the 3-mile scenic Wee Wander from Loch Lomond Shores to the Kiltwalk Village at Moss O’Balloch Park.
Sir Tom Hunter said: “Kiltwalk is quite simply the easiest way to raise money for a charity that you care about. In Glasgow, we’ve already raised more than £3.2 million for 900 different Scottish charities.
“We have more than 14,000 people taking part, because it’s easy to do, and offers incredible value for money – you pay a small amount to walk and everything you raise goes to the charity of your choice.
“It is staggering. Since The Hunter Foundation got involved over eight years ago, more than 166,000 Kiltwalkers have helped to raise more than £46m for 3,500 different Scottish charities. Everyone who takes part has a story and every community in Scotland has a deserving cause.”
