WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – President-elect Donald Trump was sentenced in New York. In a historic first, Trump’s criminal trial concluded Friday after multiple efforts to push off his fate. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to intervene.
President-elect Donald Trump was sentenced in lower Manhattan Friday. It’s an historic day and a conclusion Trump sought to avoid. There really wasn’t a punishment to speak of as Judge Juan Merchan handed down an unconditional discharge. That means Trump escapes jail time, fines, probation, really no penalty at all.
The bottom line is Trump enters his second term in office in 10 days as a convicted felon after months of failed appeals to throw this case out. Judge Merchan made it clear in court, Trump avoids a severe sentence because of the office he will soon hold, but the severity of the jury verdict still holds. Trump and his attorneys attended proceedings remotely from Florida They again took aim at the legitimacy of the case. Trump reiterating he believes he was unfairly treated.
In a lengthy social media post, the president-elect railed against Friday’s sentencing while also pledging to appeal. In the meantime, Trump looks ahead to Inauguration Day – January 20.
