LOS ANGELES (Gray News) – A group of firefighters responding to the wildfires in California were spotted saving photo albums and other items from a burning home.
Karma Dickerson, a reporter with KNBC, came across a crew with the Los Angeles Fire Department’s station No. 37 Tuesday. According to Dickerson, the firefighters appeared to have been retrieving items from a home while combatting fires in a residential neighborhood.
“Just trying to save some photos,” one of the firefighters said to Dickerson.
Among the items the crew retrieved were dozens of photo albums, a grandfather clock and several other antiques.
The firefighters told Dickerson that they were hoping to give some comfort to the homeowners by saving sentimental items.
“It was pretty extraordinary for them to make that a priority,” Dickerson said. “Understanding the house would likely be lost.”
More than 10,000 homes and other structures have burned down since the fires began popping up on Tuesday. At least 10 people have died and whole neighborhoods have been decimated in the Los Angeles area.
