An apparent UFO sighting in the skies over a Scots town just days before Christmas has sparked other residents in the area to come forward with their own unexplained sightings.

One user took to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) – a US-based non-profit organization composed of civilian volunteers who study reported UFO sightings – to share the details of the alleged sighting over Alva, Clackmannanshire, just days before Christmas.

According to the report filed with the MUFON database, the person witnessed a “huge bright object” that moved slowly, from north to south – described as being like an orange ball of light.

The report on the database said: “Orange colour, regular ball. No sounds. No position lights – like red and green in a plane. Maybe 200-300-feet above ground level.

“Visible for minute or two at 11.23pm. Disappeared in a second. My son took a photo, but the camera was on 1 second exposure and you can’t see a ball but a direction of movement.”

However no photo was published along with the report.

The sighting took place shortly before 11.30pm on Sunday, December 22, and was reported to MUFON two days later, on Christmas Eve.

One person said: “Two months ago, I was travelling into work at about 6.15am when a big orange ball with an orange tail flew across the top of Port on Menteith [Stirling]. It looked like some sort of meteorite. It disappeared behind the tree line and looked to be about the size of a house.

Another added: “Myself and my daughter saw an orange ball slowly glide over the Springkerse area [Stirling] heading in direction of Alva and Tillicoultry on the same night. Once we got closer it was a lantern.”

Another person said: “It’s true. I also saw such an object that was moving in the sky in Alloa and circled over the glass factory in Alloa. This was in November and I’m sure it wasn’t a helicopter or plane. It was some kind of object with a large light that was visible on the way from Clackmannanshire.”

Another added: “This has been seen a few times over the years. A local paranormal investigator looked into it some 30 years ago. I myself have seen it about 15-years-ago. I put it down to a lantern, it was moving slow enough and it was over the hills at Alva.

Another said: “I seen the same above Cumbernauld [North Lanarkshire] on Monday night. It was orange and moving up, down and across in short movements.”
