RONCEVERTE, W.Va. – A special surgical asset at CAMC Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Lewisburg was unveiled Wednesday.

Used for orthopedic surgeries like knee replacements, the Smith+Nephew CORI surgical robotic system adds state-of-the-art precision to procedures and allows residents to have surgeries without traveling elsewhere.

Dr. Douglas Tice, new orthopedic surgeon, said at the unveiling that his forte is reconstruction – knee, hip and shoulder replacement.

“We can take care of a lot of folks in the community and keep them from having to go out of town,” he said.

Becky Harless, the medical center’s VP/Chief Administrative Officer, said she is innovative by nature.

“My goal and what I look at for this community is to look at the cases that come here, patients that come here, and can’t stay here for one reason or another. Those are the gaps that I look to fill, all year long,” she said.

The center also held a contest to name the new robot and the winning entry will be announced on Jan. 15.
