Detectives with APD said that a woman was found lying in a pool of blood in a parking lot in East Austin Thursday morning.

AUSTIN, Texas — Detectives with Austin Police Department (APD) are stumped when it comes to finding the person responsible for killing a woman in East Austin.

On Friday, APD hosted a media briefing urging the public to come forward with information that could help bring the case to a close.

Kelly Meazell was found lying in a pool of blood in a parking lot of a complex along Manor Road, near Rogge Lane at around 1:44 a.m. Thursday, according to APD. Officers tried to save her life, but Meazell was pronounced dead roughly 30 minutes later.

Lead Detective Jason Jones said no weapon was found at the scene and people in the area have been reluctant to speak, which has been a challenge for detectives as they believe all signs point to murder.

“We’re asking for anyone that may have tips or may have information to reach out,” Jones said. “if they want to remain anonymous, they’re free to do so.”

KVUE spoke to several people in the neighborhood off-camera who described Meazell as a good person. One man who preferred to remain anonymous said the community needs to do better and wished Meazell’s family the best.

Jones noted that Meazell was experiencing homelessness but was frequently in the area she was found in. Despite that, Jones said the goal is to get justice for her and her family.

“It does not matter to me what her lifestyle was or her choices was, or why she was where she was at,” said Jones, “I don’t care about any of that; I want to bring justice for her; I want to get justice for her family.”

If you have any information on this crime, you are urged to contact APD. You can remain anonymous and may receive a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
