Animal welfare inspectors attended a property in Cleland after concerns were raised that a red substance that could be harmful was being used to deter dogs.

Cleland Community Council were contacted by a resident worried about the safety of animals in the Persimmons Homes estate in the village, off Bellside Road at the former Cleland Hospital site.

They stated in a social media post that the SSPCA (Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) had received a report outlining the resident’s concerns that someone had been using a red substance that may be harmful.

It also warned pet owners to be aware if they were in the area.

However, an SSPCA spokesperson confirmed to the Wishaw Press that an inspector from the organisation had attended and gave advice, and that there was no evidence of any harmful substance.
