Aberdeen have agreed a £650,000 deal to sign Alexander Jensen from Brommapojkarna.

Record Sport revealed earlier this week that Aberdeen had made a move for the Danish defender. The Swedish side had been reluctant to sell their versatile 23-year-old but now have reluctantly agreed a fee. It also includes a number of add-ons that could take it over £800,000 Jensen can play either full-back position or in midfield and has been one of Jimmy Thelin’s top targets. The move is now subject to Aberdeen agreeing terms and the player passing a medical and getting a work permit.

Jensen, who has also played for Velje and Fredericia ,is set to become Thelin’s third signing of the January window. He has already signed Jeppe Okkels on loan with an option to buy from Preston in the summer. The Dons have also agreed to pay a £700,000 fee to sign Latvian captain Kristers Tobers. Chairman Dave Cormack and the Aberdeen board made it clear there was money to spend and they would do whatever they could to back their manager. Thelin got off to a blistering start but has now gone 10 games without a win and is looking to turn Aberdeen’s fortunes around against Hearts.

Meanwjile, the Swedish boss insists his Dons will always have a strong home core. Thelin, who brought in Scotland striker Kevin Nisbet on loan from Millwall, is scouring the domestic talent pool while also looking to keep the pathway to the first team clear for the cream of the Cormack Park academy. The Aberdeen boss said: “It’s really important to have a Scottish identity and we are working really hard with the recruitment team to do that.la

“We are looking at players we want to sign because, as a Scottish team, it is good to have a core of Scottish players. That’s what we want but still we have to look at a mix because of the players that are available right now. We have special skills that we need to bring in and it’s down to what we can get.

“They have to be available to come to Aberdeen and be at the right price. But we do have a clear objective of the Aberdeen DNA and nothing has changed as far as that’s concerned. You have to respect the culture and the demands of the league you play in.”
