Rangers fans are set to vote with their feet as they make their feelings clear towards the club after falling EIGHTEEN points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
The Light Blues host bottom dogs St Johnstone and Sunday and if the season ticket resale site SeatSub is anything to go by then the game is proving a huge turnoff for punters. Fans who can’t attend matches are given the chance to sell their season ticket to fellow supporters and it has proved a popular facility.
But rarely has there been so much availability with fans able to purchase a season ticket for the game against the Perth side for EVERY season ticket holder section in the stadium. One fan said on social media: “If this isn’t a wake up call for the board to make the change now then it’s only going to get worse.” It comes after ultras group the Union Bears released a statement on Friday saying that sacking Philippe Clement is necessary but “not enough”.
However, new CEO Patrick Stewart said the club would be backing the Belgian in the short term at least after he held a media conference on Saturday morning. Sunday’s attendance could be a sign of things to come with a run of five home games in their next seven fixtures. Aberdeen are the visitors in midweek and the Dons could cut the gap on Rangers to just four points if they repeat their victory at Pittodrie earlier in the season.
The Light Blues then host Fraserburgh before back to back away games against Dundee United and Manchester United are followed by home games against USG in the Europa League and Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.
Stewart spoke about the importance of the fans sticking with the team, saying: “No football club can be successful without an engaged supporter base and Rangers’ supporter base is huge, and certainly not a supporter base we’re taking for granted, just to be clear. I want to speak to supporters to say we’re not happy with results, no one’s happy with results, but equally we’re not happy with the short-term quick fixes that have been applied in the past and not worked.
“We’ve got to dig deeper and we’re really committed to digging deeper and doing it quickly. I obviously have some initial impressions which I’m not going to share because I don’t want to pre-empt this review. There will be multiple reasons that are all quite complex and interconnected, otherwise if it was easy we would have found the answer sooner and fixed it. So this is about really taking a step back, digging deep and we’re doing this to create long-term sustained success – not just the odd trophy here and there.”
