A dog was left locked in a freezing car boot overnight after a driver crashed into the parked vehicle.
The canine was abandoned in icy conditions following the smash in Dulverton Road in the Aston area of the city on Friday. Firefighters were called to the scene at 5.56am on Saturday and the animal was discovered locked inside the boot of the dark coloured Volkswagen Passat.
Aston Fire Station posted on X later this morning to say the dog had been left through the night during subzero temperatures. Images published by the fire station showed damage to the boot door, and a dog kennel within the boot.
West Midlands Police attended and the dog was taken away in the care of police officers. Officers were pictured leading the brown coloured dog into the side of the van using dog catcher poles.
Aston Fire Station said that a brigade response vehicle (BRV) was sent to the scene. The fire station said on X: “BRV attended an RTC where a car hit a parked vehicle. A dog was found locked in the boot, silent through the night in freezing temperatures.
“Crews rescued her, and she’ll be cared for by police for the night. Please don’t leave animals in extreme cold, and drive carefully!”
It is not yet clear what happened to the driver. West Midlands Police has been approached for comment.
