A learner driver got more than they bargained for while on a driving lesson.
While on a lesson, the driver accompanied by their instructor, had stopped on London Road, Liverpool, so the learner could pop into a shop. However, while doing so they were handed a parking fine from passing police officers who were on patrol, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool Police had been carrying out enforcement for cars parked on the footway and obstructing the live lane when they spotted the learner vehicle.
Liverpool Police shared the incident on its Facebook page. It said: “Team 2 officers have been out on London Road today carrying out enforcement for cars parked on the footway and obstructing the live lane, including this learner driver and instructor. Both dealt with for obstruction (of) the live lane and footway whilst the learner went to the shop!”
The post was shared with a picture of the driving instructor’s car, spurring lots of people to comment below. Irene Thurston said: “About time too. Driving instructor should know better. Needs to be out all over Merseyside.”
Joe McDermott said: “Well done Merseyside police” and Philip Grover also said: “Well done Merseyside Police. More enforcement is certainly required. Keep up the good work.”
However, others felt there were other areas that deserved to be targeted more by police, and that ‘picking on a learner driver’ was unfair.
George Edwards said: “They should get down Lodge Lane and get that sorted out instead of picking on a learner driver, fair enough they shouldn’t have parked like that but when you go down Lodge Lane every car is obstructing the roads and the pavements. I wonder why they allow it to happen.”
