Dozens have been injured after two trams collided at a major station in France.

Emergency services raced to Gare Centrale station in Strasbourg, in the east of the country, after the alarm was raised earlier today.

A shock video taken at he scene shows the aftermath of the coming together of the vehicles.

As reported by the Mirror, an alarm can be heard blaring as some people are laid on the ground with injuries. Initial estimates suggest around 30 people were injured in the incident.

It’s understood the accident was caused when one of the trams was put onto a track where another was idle in the major station in a switching error.

One witness said: “I just saw what happened in Strasbourg. It’s very serious, an accident between two trams, there would be five serious injuries and 30 minor injuries. We sincerely hope there is no death.”

Bas-Rhin fire and rescue service said on X: ” Tram accident at the Gare Centrale stop at Strasbourg. Numerous resources mobilized.

“Avoid the areas of Place des Halles, Gare, Boulevard du Président Wilson and facilitate access for emergency services.”
