Two leading Rangers fan groups have called for a mass walk out in Sunday’s clash with St Johnstone at Ibrox in protest at the running of the club.
The Union Bears and the Rangers Supporter’s Association are asking fans to take their leave in the 55th minute of the Premiership meeting in Govan to send the Ibrox hierarchy a message. It comes just a day after the Union Bears had released another statement that claimed that sacking boss Philippe Clement would be “necessary” but “not enough”.
Despite falling 18 points behind Celtic in the title race, Clement has been given a vote of confidence by new Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart, who has also vowed to back the under-fire Belgian in the remainder of the January transfer window. But those comments have only hardened the stance taken by members of two of the club’s leading fan groups. Their statement read: “The Union Bears alongside the Rangers Supporters Association urge all fans to leave the stadium in the 55th minute during tomorrow’s match—to send a statement to the board. Just as they gave up on Rangers after our 55th title, we will no longer tolerate their incompetence, excuses, and disrespect.
“The board used our 55th title as free rein to coast on success, masking their lack of vision and leadership while dragging our club into mediocrity. These actions may seem drastic, but they are necessary. The board has failed us for too long, and our loyalty will no longer be used as a pass for their failure. The Rangers support cannot stop until there is accountability, ambition, and leadership worthy of our club.”
