Realistic Rangers ace Vaclav Cerny admits they’re so far behind Celtic they can’t even think about a Premiership title challenge.
The Czech winger – on loan from Wolfsburg this season – says it’s not on their agenda after slipping 15 points adrift of their Old Firm rivals. Philippe Clement’s beleaguered side could only muster a 1-1 draw against Dundee at Dens Park on Thursday night.
That result continued a dismal run of away form which has seen them win just THREE of their 11 games on the road this term. Under-fire Clement was told where to go by raging Rangers fans on Tayside and Cerny knows it’s been nowhere near good enough.
The 27-year-old baulked when asked about whether they could somehow get back into the title race – effectively confessing that it’s already Celtic’s to lose. Cerny said: “I’ve been in football for 11 years at the highest level and I’ve never got such a question when you know we are 15 points behind.
“We just need to focus on ourselves and see what happens. We need to start winning games and not think about winning the league.”
Cerny, who has been one of the few Rangers players to perform at a high level this season with 11 goals to his name, is at a loss as to why they can’t get results on their travels. And he’s now called for unity at the club, with his gaffer under fire from supporters.
When quizzed on what’s going wrong away from home, the visibly angry wide man said: “We’re not winning. Why do I think that is? I’ve no idea. We are well prepared for these games. We know what we want to do but it just hasn’t gone our way in the past few games. We need to stick together now, work even harder and get back to winning these games.”
