WASHINGTON D.C., DC — The National Funeral Service for Jimmy Carter on Thursday morning in Washington has brought numerous former presidents and vice presidents together, including two with a tense recent past.
Former president and current President-elect Donald Trump acknowledged former Vice President Mike Pence and the two shook hands as Trump took his seat for the services at the National Cathedral in Washington.

President-elect Trump on that day had urged Pence to deny the election victory by President Joe Biden, with Pence instead presiding over the Electoral College vote count and affirming the Biden victory.
The events ruptured their relationship, and Trump did not consider Pence as a running mate when he made his third and second successful campaign for the White House this year.
They did appear Thursday to exchange a greeting, though it was not clear if they spoke further. Former VP Pence also greeted First Lady Melania Trump.
President-elect Trump is also sitting at the funeral next to former President Barack Obama, and the two appeared to chat at length.
There are five living presidents and three vice presidents at the services on Thursday.
