An award-winning Lanarkshire eaterie received a special visit from the local MSP to mark their recent industry successes.
Carrigan’s, which has restaurants in Hamilton, Blantyre and East Kilbride, was named independent multiple operator of the year at the Scottish Licensed Trade News (SLTN) awards and was then recognised in a Holyrood motion of congratulations tabled by Clare Haughey MSP.
She then visited the branch at Broompark Road in Blantyre, which is part of her Rutherglen constituency, to present a framed copy of the text to family restaurateurs John, Philomena and Barry Carrigan.
Barry said: “It’s an incredible honour to receive this acknowledgment in person from Clare Haughey MSP – it’s a testament to the dedication of our team, the loyalty of our customers, and the vibrant communities we are so proud to be part of.
“We’re excited to continue building on this legacy and contributing to the growth and prosperity of Blantyre and beyond.”
Ms Haughey said: “Carrigan’s is a shining example of how a local, family-run business can grow and thrive while remaining deeply rooted in its community – their achievements are a source of pride for Blantyre and beyond, and I am delighted to present this recognition on behalf of the Scottish Parliament.”
Her motion had congratulated the popular local firm on their achievement and “commitment to excellence and a passion for hospitality”, calling Carrigan’s “a local business, which started in Blantyre and was built up over decades by the Carrigan family, and now has venues in Blantyre, Hamilton and East Kilbride.”
And the motion went on to praise Carrigan’s “for continuing to develop its reputation as a much-loved choice for a meal, drink or coffee, known for friendly service and a warm welcome, and close links to the local community.”
Carrigan’s described the local response to their SLTN win as “overwhelming” and said Ms Haughey’s parliamentary motion and subsequent visit were “a proud moment for the family and their team, highlighting their commitment to excellence and their vital role in supporting the local economy and community”.
A spokesperson added: “The Carrigan’s success story is defined by its unique blend of hospitality excellence and community spirit. Carrigan’s remains a favourite destination for locals and visitors, and with a strong commitment to charity, local events, and customer satisfaction.
“Carrigan’s is not just a success story in hospitality – it is a driver of local investment and economic development, with the venues providing employment opportunities and attracting visitors to the area.
“This moment marks yet another chapter in Carrigan’s inspiring story of local roots, hard work, dedication to community and excellence.”
