A distressed family has appealed for help from the community after their Highland Perthshire home was badly damaged in a fire.

Tamzin Ashton-Clements launched a GoFundMe page after the Sunday, January 5, blaze which has left a huge hole in the roof of the Grandtully house.

As of yesterday more than £3,220 had been raised of a £5000 target to help the stricken family – who say their home is their “entire life”.

In an emotive plea, Tamzin appealed for support from locals, stating that their house insurance had lapsed, leaving them with no cover to fix the damage.

Her Facebook page shows photographs of the large gap in the house’s roof along with charred detritus.

People in the Aberfeldy area on Facebook have already offered to help the family with washing, cooking, food and bedding.

Tamzin’s GoFundMe page states: “On the 5th January 2025 a fire took over our house.

“We did not know until a kind person stopped after seeing flames coming from the roof.

“I live with my parents and my mum is on oxygen. We managed to get everyone out of the house including mum’s oxygen however we have now been left with no kitchen or utility and a bathroom which isn’t suitable for mum.

“Unfortunately my parents’ house insurance has lapsed so we are not covered.

“It is a lot to move out with three dogs and two cats and this is our entire life this home.

“I am asking if anyone could at all help us. We have never asked for anything but with mum being ill, all she wants to do is be at home.”

On Facebook Tamzin said there was now “a massive hole in the roof” and no kitchen, utility room or bathroom for her mother, adding: “With mum being elderly and disabled and on oxygen it is not a great time of year for any of this.

“I’m not one to ask, but I’m going to ask if there is anything anyone can give to help – money, clothes for mum and dad, an offer to use a washing machine and tumble dryer or any services would be amazing.

“Thanks to the three fire engines from Aberfeldy, Pitlochry and Dunkeld for coming so quickly.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said this week: “We received a call at 12.19pm on January 5 to a house along the A827 in the Grandtully area.

“Three fire engines were mobilised – one from Aberfeldy, one from Pitlochry and one from Dunkeld. It was a fire within a domestic property.

“There were no casualties. Everyone was safe and well. The fire was extinguished at 2.03pm.
