SILVER SPRING, Md. (Gray News) – A firefighter in Maryland died while responding to a house fire in the community Saturday night.
A spokesperson with Montgomery County Fire Rescue Services said Master Firefighter Chris Higgins was throwing ladders to the home when he collapsed from a medical episode.
His fellow firefighters on the scene and medical responders gave immediate support before he was taken to the hospital, where he died.
According to the fire department, Higgins was a “respected and dedicated” member of the firehouse and had 23 years of service.
“Known for his exceptional skills, mentorship, and unwavering commitment, he was more than a firefighter—he was a friend and role model to many,” MCFRS wrote in a statement.
Higgins leaves behind a wife and two children.
