Harry Styles is a man of many talents. He proved just how broad his musical ability could be after One Direction went on a hiatus – and has shown he can act too!
The 30-year-old, originally from Cheshire in the UK, made his big acting debut in Dunkirk. The film, directed by Christopher Nolan, was released in 2017.
Styles also appeared in Eternals, a movie directed by Chloé Zhao that hit cinemas in 2021. He appeared in a mid-credits scene as Eros (Starfox), the brother of Thanos, marking his entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
His biggest role was probably in Don’t Worry Darling in 2022. Directed by Olivia Wilde, Harry played Jack Chambers, a central character in this psychological thriller. The film co-starred Florence Pugh.
And let’s not forget My Policeman, which was released in the same year. Directed by Michael Grandage, Harry starred as Tom Burgess, a closeted policeman in 1950s Britain.
That’s a pretty big show reel – but there is one role that Styles turned down. And he had a good reason.
He was in contention for the coveted role in Paul Feig’s festive romcom, Last Christmas, starring alongside Emilia Clarke. But while Styles was first pick, Henry Golding of The Gentlemen and Crazy Rich Asians fame ultimately filled the spot.
Despite the 2019 movie’s success, grossing £100million and featuring Clarke and Emma Thompson, it wasn’t until November 2021 that Styles confirmed he had been considered for the lead role.
Director Feig said: “I love Harry. We wanted him to play the part that Henry Golding played but he turned it down because he felt he was too young for the role. I’ve tried to get him in a few movies.”
Fingers crossed the pair will get to work together soon!
