Kilmarnock have made Liverpool and Scotland full-back Calvin Ramsay their first winter transfer window signing.
The 21-year-old right-back signed for the English giants from Aberdeen four years ago in a blockbuster deal worth an initial £4.2million but has struggled with injuries ever since.
Ramsay was given his debut at the Dons by current Killie assistant Paul Sheerin after Derek McInnes had departed the Pittodrie club.
He burst on to the scene with a string of impressive performances that saw Liverpool splash the cash – but the move hasn’t gone as expected.
Having featured just twice for Liverpool, he’s had largely unsuccessful loans spells at Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic – amassing just eight total starts.
He’s hoping a move to Ayrshire and a reunion with McInnes and Sheerin for the latter half of the season can help him get his career back on track.
Killie beat a number of clubs to the signings, with gaffer Derek McInnes saying: “When the opportunity came up to sign Calvin we jumped at it. I’d like to thank Liverpool for their cooperation once again on this deal.”
While fellow loannee full-back Jack Burroughs currently remains at the club, the Standard understands that he will be recalled by parent club Coventry City prior to the window closing.
McInnes earlier in the window hinted that he’d be looking to add reinforcements up front given both Kyle Vassell and Innes Cameron have been ruled out for two months.
