MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – In Monday night’s Board of Supervisors meeting, there will be a vote on whether to re-establish the joint tourism agreement between Montgomery County and the towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg.

The most recent tourism agreement between the county and the two towns expired in 2023.

Whether its shops, restaurants, parks and rec facilities or Virginia Tech, each locality has different ways to attract visitors to the New River Valley.

Board of Supervisors member Anthony Grafsky says without tourism, Christiansburg, Blacksburg and Montgomery County would not have the amenities it does and renewing the joint agreement would benefit everyone.

“Those kinds of things, they generate a lot of tax revenue for the for the localities and just generate a lot of traffic and revenue for the local businesses as well. We need to be supporting our local businesses,“ said Grafsky.

If Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Montgomery County all vote to approve, a “Montgomery Tourism Development Council” will be formed, consisting of a council member from each town, a board member, a member of the chamber of commerce, and other owners or employees from local hotels, restaurants, and attractions.

The Board of Supervisors meeting starts Monday at 7:30pm.
