A popular forest playpark has closed so that tree felling can take place.
Forestry and Land Scotland hopes the facility in Mabie Forest in Dumfries and Galloway will be back open in time for April’s Easter holidays.
The closure, which also affects the lower part of the car park, is part of the organisation’s efforts to tackle phytophthora ramorum – a disease deadly to larch trees.
The forests Orchard and Chinney Field trails were both closed at the end of 2024 as the work began.
FLS’ area visitor service manager, Katharina Koehler, said: “We’re making good progress in felling and removing the affected, dying and dead larch trees.
“Public safety is our top priority so it is necessary to close the playpark and car park to keep everyone away from our felling operations, which are inherently dangerous.
“We would again advise anyone coming to Mabie to observe all safety signage and detours, follow any instructions from our banksmen and be mindful of the fact that there will be more timber lorries travelling along the forest road through the main forest.”
“We would like to thank visitors for their understanding and cooperation.”
People thinking of visiting Mabie are asked to check the latest information on the FLS website, with dog walkers advised to keep their pets under control.
The toilets will still be accessible during the work.
