PRINCETON, W. Va. -The RiffRaff Arts Collective and Dream Bean Coffee Shop are known for bringing a splash of color to Mercer Street, but on February 7th, that color becomes red for an annual artistic event, and they’re asking the community to help bring the event to life.
For more than a decade, Mercer Street has been home to the annual “La Rouge,” with the theme playing into the upcoming Saint Valentines Day and giving guests an excuse to wear their best red dresses. The free event will feature live music and a showcase of local artists and vendors, allowing people to do a little Valentines Day shopping as well.
La Rouge will also be a reception for a red-themed art gallery, with spots available for more. Organizers encourage artists to submit their own art that can be hung on the gallery walls, with the only prompt being to capture the “essence of red.”
“Really it is open for interpretation. I suppose one of the best things is letting the artists create something from their mind. When they think of the essence of red, what does that mean to you?” says Ryan Perkins, manager of the Dream Bean.
“It’s a great idea to just go ahead and step through that door if you’ve been thinking about getting involved and wanting to showcase your work, we would love to see it,” says Lori McKinney, director of the RiffRaff Arts Collective.
Again, the La Rouge will be held on February 7th at the Dream Bean.
Those wanting to submit art can do so by going here to fill out a form. The deadline for submission is January 28th.
