Mexican food fans will be gutted to find out that a popular food item has been withdrawn from Aldi shelves. Bestway Sandwiches Inc.’s frozen chicken and cheese taquito have been recalled.

The move comes after a customer reportedly suffered a dental injury while eating the product – and another claimed they found a piece of metal in it.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on Saturday, January 11, that 24,870 pounds of the product were affected. They may “be contaminated with foreign material, specifically metal,” the body added.

Products were sold at Aldi stores nationwide. The recall came after the USDA received a “consumer complaint reporting that a piece of metal was found in the frozen chicken and cheese taquito product.”

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), a division of the USDA, also received another report from a consumer saying they “have a dental injury from the product.”

The recalled products have the Best by Dates of July 3, 2025, and September 25, 2025, at the bottom of the packaging. They come in packages that read: “CASA MAMITA CHICKEN & CHEESE TAQUITOS.”

The items were produced on July 3, 2024, and September 25, 2024, with the establishment number “EST. P-40327” on the package.

Thankfully, there have been no more reports of injury or illness off the back of eating the product but food safety is concerned that some product may be in customers’ freezers. Those who have purchased these products are urged not to eat them. Instead, they should throw them away or return them to the shop they bought them from.

It comes after one of Cadbury’s most popular products was withdrawn from shelves. Mondelez International, which owns Cadbury, confirmed that they identified a “food quality issue” in some tubs of their hot chocolate powder at the end of last year, which meant “the texture and colour of the product may not look as expected”.

They said: “As a result, we have swiftly withdrawn affected products from retailers, to make specific improvements to future production.”
