A British skier has died in a horror collision in after losing control of her skis and hitting a fellow Brit while attempting a treacherous black slope.

The woman, a 65-year-old tourist was pronounced dead at the scene at Les Arcs ski resort in France, after colliding with the man on her way down the steep slope on the Aiguille Rouge, French news outlet Le Dauphine reports.

The 35-year-old man, who was standing still on the slope at the time, was rushed to hospital for treatment, where it was found he suffered a broken leg in the smash. Both were reportedly wearing helmets.

Investigations are now ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the tragedy. Officers are yet to confirm the woman’s cause of death, reports the Mirror.

Black ski slopes are considered the most challenging due to their steep drops, and are designed for experienced skiers.

The tragedy follows the death of three skiers in an avalanche on the Punta Valgrande summit in northern Italy just two days earlier. They suffered fatal injuries after being dragged downhill for several hundred metres.

A warning of “considerable danger of avalanches” had already been issued, with the area already holding a third-degree avalanche risk level. Witnesses claimed they saw people swept off the slope as it came crashing down the mountain.

Last month, an American teenage athlete was also killed in a skiing accident after attempting a black diamond trail known as the “most difficult” at a resort in the state of Massachusetts. Alex Kemp, 19, is said to have sustained “significant head trauma” after going over an embankment, and died as a result of his injuries.
