Striker Chris Wood broke a remarkable duck as he smashed in a superb opener against Liverpool.
The New Zealand forward linked up with Anthony Elanga for Nottingham Forest’s opener against the Reds at the City Ground. The forwards is in red hot form and grabbed his 13th goal of the season as he dreams of taking his side into Champions League football. Not only was it a great goal but it marked a huge moment for the 33-year-old.
Chris Wood has now scored against every side he has played two or more games against in the Premier League. Liverpool have been ticked off the list at the 13th time of asking. His twelve previous game against Mohamed Salah and co yielded no return. But the Forest forward is in the form of his life under Nuno Espirito Santo.
In a previous interview he spoke of the amazing project at his latest club. Speaking to FourFourTwo, Wood said: “Forest needed a striker and I wasn’t playing at Newcastle; Alexander Isak is a brilliant player and he was coming into his own, showing his quality. You could see it when he arrived. I spoke to Eddie and he said, ‘At the moment, it seems you’re going to be third choice.’
“I thanked him for being honest and open. I said ‘I’ve received this opportunity – would it be possible?’ He said, ‘If that’s what you want to do, we can work it out.’ I really appreciated his honesty. I could come down here (to Nottingham Forest) and play more football than I would’ve done at Newcastle. Leaving was tough – I was really enjoying my time up here with the teammates and friends I’d made, and I wanted to be involved in the club for years to come because I could see the project being amazing.”
