Calvin Ramsay believes he can re-ignite his career at Kilmarnock after agreeing a loan move for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old becomes the Rugby Park side’s first signing of the winter transfer window after agreeing a temporary move from Liverpool.

Ramsay burst onto the scene four years ago at Aberdeen after being handed his debut by Paul Sheerin – now Killie’s assistant – shortly after Derek McInnes left the Pittodrie outfit.

And he’s hoping teaming up with the pair again can get him back to enjoying his football after a challenging time.

An impressive spell at Aberdeen saw him catch the eye of the English giants, with Liverpool paying a reported initial fee of £4.2million for his services in June 2022.

He also earned his first senior Scotland cap just months later but a string of injuries and unsucessful loan spells has led to his career stagnating.

Loans moves to Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic have produced just eight starts.

He’s hoping that changes in Ayrshire, telling Killie TV: “I’m delighted to be here. I spoke to the manager and he was at Aberdeen when I was 15 or 16 and used to train with them. I remember him and he was a great manager.

“Paul Sheerin as well gave me my debut and they’re top coaches.”

He added: “I think I know almost half the dressing room. There’s Matty (Kennedy), Marley (Watkins), I think I can go through a lot of them.

“There’s a few boys I played with for Scotland’s Under-21s as well. I spoke to Matty a few days ago and he told me it’s a great place to play. Hopefully when I get back to playing week in, week out, I can enjoy my football again.

“There’s always settling in periods when you go to new clubs but here I’ve kept in contact with a few of the lads and I know a lot of them, so it just makes it easier

“I’m closer to home now and when I’m playing I’m sure my mum and dad will be down for the games.”
