North Lanarkshire Council has received a planning application proposing the conversion of former council offices in Coatbridge into housing.
The application concerns Merrystone House in Blairhill Street, and gives details of a plan to convert that building into two flats and a townhouse, while also constructing three new flats and a detached house.
A supporting statement notes that the building is currently classed for financial, professional or other services but could easily be adapted for housing and is located within a residential area, and in 2017 a change of use was granted by the council.
The statement also notes that the building is not presently in good condition and a significant amount of work will be needed to make it functional again.
The applicant, who purchased the building from North Lanarkshire Council, intends to use the detached house as their private residence while the other homes would be sold or rented to others.
The application is currently open for consultation and anyone who wishes to learn more about the proposals or leave a comment for consideration can do so by visiting North Lanarkshire Council’s website and searching for planning reference 24/00666/FUL.
