The fee Rangers paid for Robin Propper is higher than initially claimed, according to reports in the Netherlands.
The Dutch defender headed to Ibrox last July, with FC Twente technical director Arnold Bruggink revealing that Propper had a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave for a certain price before July 31 last year. Rangers came calling and Propper opted to make the switch to the Scottish Premiership as Philippe Clement looked to replaced Connor Goldson.
“The year before, there were already some chances to leave, but Twente did not want to lose me,” he told Tubantia.. “That was also Twente’s right. I did state at the time that, if I were to re-sign, there had to be a certain clause in my contract. That gave me the feeling that I still had my career in my own hands and had not completely cornered myself.“
Bruggink added: “Last year we stopped Robin from going to a top foreign club. We then discussed the possible what-if situations that could arise next time. Then you sit down together and make agreements.
“If a club comes before midnight on July 31st that wants to pay the set amount, then he can go. And he has now taken advantage of that. That’s the way it is.” However, despite reports claiming that Gers forked out £1.5million for the Dutch defender, Twente Insite is now claiming that the fee was closer to £2.7million.
Meanwhile, West Ham are reportedly planning a raid of Wolfsburg to sign Vaclav Cerny ahead of Villarreal. The Spanish outfit have been linked with the Czech, who is on loan in Govan from the Bundesliga.
Clement is keen to sign Cerny permanently, but admits the club don’t have the money Wolfsburg are looking for to do a deal. West Ham certainly do, and Fichajes claim that the Hammers, now under new boss Graham Potter, are preparing to ‘snatch’ him from the La Liga side’s grasp.
