A Scots company which made props for the Barbie movie is looking to recruit to its small team.

Fake Food Workshop, based in Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway, can also count Disney, Netflix and Heinz as high profile customers.

And now the business – run by Kerry Samantha Boyes with daughter Primrose – is looking for fake food painters and sculptors as well as someone to help manage sales.

Kerry started the business on her kitchen table during lockdown and her creations include ice cream cones used in the 2023 Barbie Hollywood blockbuster.

She said: “I had bought a copy of Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management and loved the lithographs of all the dishes she made – I thought it would be fun to see if I could recreate some of them.

“Then I was looking at similar things online and thought that perhaps I could make things and sell them. I started a little online store and the orders just started to come in. And they were from all over the world.”

Her pieces have proven popular with National Trust properties, perfumers Jo Malone and even the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Creations have ranged from roast goose and Scottish breakfasts to historical dishes for banquets.

And last year Kerry and Primrose created the UK’s first Fake Food Store – complete with Victorian counters and cupboards – for the Spring Fling arts festival.
