A raging Kilmarnock fan who vlogged about the club has been jailed for masturbating in front of school children on a bus. Gordon Sawers was sentenced to two years behind bars after an incident in which he threatened to “rape and stab” a schoolgirls.
Sawers also carried out a sex act in front them on a Stagecoach service between Kilmarnock and Ardrossan on February 25, 2024. The 46-year-old this week tried to claim his crimes were “banter” but previously plead guilty to five charges when he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in November last year.
On Tuesday he accepted a charge of communicating indecently with teenage girls, another of indecently causing a youth to hear sexual communications and threatening her with sexual violence, along with an offence of public indecency.
Sawers, who shot to fame for foul mouthed outbursts about the Ayrshire team, was travelling on the service on the top floor of the double-decker bus, sitting in the rear seats upstairs. A group of girls came on board and sat together close to where Sawers was sitting.
Fiscal depute Fraser Alexander told the court Sawers instigated a ‘sexual conversation’ with the schoolchildren. Sawers then reportedly told some of the girls: “I will take you to my house and s**g you” and “I will inject you with heroin.”
The prosecutor then detailed a number of specific explicit remarks made by Sawers, who is now described as a prisoner at HMP Kilmarnock, towards two of the group. Sawers made further comments which were directed towards the youngest member of the group.
He stated he wanted to perform a sexual act upon the girl and told her “I’m going to rape and stab yous and that”. Mr Alexander explained: “To be clear, it was the accused only that was making any sexual references.”
The court heard Sawers then performed a sex act on himself, with youngsters left “distressed” and “visibly upset”. Another passenger who was travelling on the bus alerted the driver – with the police immediately called.
Officers pulled the bus over on Pennyburn Road in the North Ayrshire town where Sawers was cuffed. Cops took him to Saltcoats police office where he was charged and made no reply.
At his sentencing hearing on Monday, January 13, his solicitor Sandy Currie told the court Sawers described his actions as “banter”.
He said: “At the time he had a chaotic lifestyle including drug use, which led to his behaviour and the seriousness of it. I can’t begin to explain or excuse it. He accepts he has very little recollection of what he said and did.”
Sheriff Nicola Patrick said: “He appears to have deliberately targeted the young girls. Because of the seriousness of these crimes, a custodial sentence is the only appropriate disposal.”
He was also handed two years on license following his release, meaning any further offending would see him jailed again. He was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, due to the extended sentence handed out.
Sawers was sentenced to two years behind bars and a year in jail for a range of other charges, which will be served concurrently.
Sawers rose to viral Scottish football stardom when he posted grievances following dismal Kilmarnock results and sweary videos would be shared by the raging super-fan who would blast the team.
In 2016 Sawers was ejected from Rugby Park during a play-off clash to save Kilmarnock’s Premiership status. It left his son, who had earlier won £100 in a half-time draw, in tears in the stands minutes before Killie hit their third goal of the game.
