KYLE, Texas — The city of Kyle has been awarded a $1.3 million Hazard Mitigation Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA). Kyle City Council voted to accept the grant during a Tuesday, Jan. 7 meeting.

The funds will be used to acquire and install eight permanent generators for Kyle’s most critical water system sites, the city said. The generators will provide backup power and ensure the delivery of water to residents in times of crisis.

The generators will be installed at the following locations:

  • 150 Agate Lake Drive
  • 751 Kohlers Crossing
  • 1193 Yarrington Road
  • 260 Old Stagecoach Road
  • 701 Moore St.
  • 225 Veterans Drive
  • Lift Station at 642 Masonwood Drive
  • Kensington Trails Lift Station

Additional proposed work at each location includes the installation of automatic transfer switches, concrete pads for the generators, security fencing if needed, piping, wiring, conduits and other necessary electrical and site modifications, according to the city.

“This project and funding will play an integral role in our continued commitment to building a more sustainable and resilient infrastructure in Kyle,” said City of Kyle Director of Water Utilities Mike Murphy. “These generators, strategically placed across our developing communities are a necessary tool in achieving citywide water security, when it is most needed.”

The city applied for the FEMA funds following the severe winter storms of February 2021.

The city of Kyle will work with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to facilitate the funding.
