Cameron Nwosu, 32, was arrested after a woman he’d been dating said he assaulted her and tried to strangle her.

HOUSTON — A former football player at Rice University and Southern Methodist University was arrested over the weekend after a woman he’d been dating said he attacked her.

Cameron Nwosu, 32, is charged with aggravated sexual assault and assault of a family member.

During his first court appearance, he infuriated the judge by repeatedly interrupting her.

Prosecutors said Nwosu and the woman were at a bar Saturday night when he became angry over a comment she made about another man’s face. When they were leaving, they said he pushed the woman down and began strangling her until a security guard intervened.

According to court documents, Nwosu followed her home and forced her to take off her clothes at gunpoint, then sexually assaulted her. After the alleged assault, he told her, “Good girl,” and left.

When the judge was reading the allegations, Nwosu interrupted her.

“Stop talking or go with the deputy, those are your options!” the judge yelled. “I don’t know where you think you’re at, but you’re in my courtroom.”

After admonishing Nwosu, the judge set his total bonds at $85,000 and granted the victim’s request for a protective order.

Then he interrupted her again and started rambling about his rights.

“I’m standing on my constitutional rights,” Nwosu said. “Let the record show as a natural person, I am not a part of any group.”

“Get out of my courtroom now!” the judge yelled while pointing at the door.

He kept talking as a deputy escorted him out of the courtroom.

“Good Lord,” the judge said. “Obviously, nothing I said made an impact. That’s fantastic. It’s a great feeling.”

Rice confirmed that Nwosu played football there from 2010-2013 after graduating from Klein Forest High School in Houston. He played football at SMU during his senior year in 2014.
