Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two hours, and the neighbouring road was closed by police, but no injuries were reported.

Footage taken by an onlooker shows the fire taking hold, seemingly before emergency services arrived.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were notified of the blaze at 17.21, and mobilised four appliances to the scene. Crews left at 19.07 after ensuring the area was safe. Police Scotland were also in attendance.

Video shows the flames getting stronger and ripping through the building as clouds of thick smoke billow into the sky.

In a statement shared to social media, Police Scotland said: “Around 5.30pm on Wednesday, 15 January, 2025, we received a report of a fire at Westwood Square, East Kilbride.

“Emergency services are in attendance. Redcliffe Drive is currently closed. Motorists are asked to find alternative routes.”
