LOS ANGELES (Gray News) – Comedian Jay Leno traveled to the Pacific Palisades on Monday night to help feed first responders and hand out food to those who have been affected by the California wildfires.
The former late-night television show host said he drove his 1941 American LaFrance firetruck full of hot food to the residents in need.
“We got a big barbeque going,” Jay Leno said during an interview with Anderson Cooper on Monday night.
Los Angeles-area officials said at least 24 people have been killed in the wildfires, which have been burning for about a week.
“You get on that hill and you look for miles and there’s nothing. It looks like Hiroshima or just some horrible thing,” Leno described.
More than 12,000 structures in the region have been destroyed by the fires.
“It’s an entire city wiped out. I mean Pacific Palisades doesn’t exist and probably won’t exist for the next five or six years. I don’t know how you rebuild this,” Leno added.
Leno said he plans to cook and deliver food to other locations later in the week.
