Rangers star Jefte has admitted he is dreaming of playing in the Premier League in the future.
The Brazilian made his move to Ibrox last summer on a four-year deal from Fluminense and has emerged as Philippe Clement’s first-choice left-back this term during an impressive start to life in the Scottish Premiership. And after making an instant impression on the Ibrox faithful, the 21-year-old has admitted he hopes to one day make his next step to the top flight in England – while insisting that his focus remains on Rangers in the midst of January transfer season.
He told Rangers TV: “Short term my ambition is to continue to evolve, to develop and show the coaching staff, the manager, the club directors that I will always do everything I can to help the club. To leave my blood on the pitch every single time, to train seriously and, of course, to win matches and titles.
”Long term, I’ve always had the ambition of playing in the Premier League – that’s a dream of mine. But that’s talking long term. For now, my mind is here, and what I want is to help this club.”
Reports in France also suggest that Marseille fringe man Bamo Meite is back on Rangers’ agenda this month. The 23-year-old has recovered from injury but remains on the outskirts of the first-team picture with the Ligue 1 side – with the Light Blues named as a potential destination for the centre-back on loan alongside FC Lorient just months after his £9m move to the Stade Veledrome.
But Lorient club president Laurent Nicollin insists the door is only open for a permanent departure. He told Midi Libre: “If we have to sign someone, we would rather sign a defender who can play right-back.
“Bamo Meite, who we contracted, has this profile. But Marseille wants to sell him. You never know what can happen at the end of the transfer window.”
In terms of outgoings, it appears Cyriel Dessers could be on his way out of Ibrox with Saint-Etienne, Cagliari and Empoli all floated as potential destinations for the 30-year-old – after he was dislodged as Clement’s go-to frontman by Hamza Igamane. La Liga strugglers Leganes have also “asked about” a move for the striker, according to Spanish outlet Relevo.
