Residents in an Ayrshire town have been left baffled after reports of a ‘large dead snake’ on a beach.

The discovery was made on the beach in Ardeer on Wednesday morning (January 15).

A photograph was posted on social media as locals speculated on what it could be.

Suggestions included a constrictor, python or anaconda.

One person said: “Definitely a snake. I have two but nowhere near the size of that. It’s a boa constrictor.”

Another added: “Deffo call that in for uplift as that’s just sad. Whoever that animal belongs to and being in its condition, it’s maybe been bit from a dog or that but it’s massive for a snake. Poor animal.”

A third said: “As a snake keeper, that is horrendous and sad. Poor beast. I think it’s a python, I just can’t look too closely as it’s upsetting to me.”

Another added: “How sad. Looks like it’s been a great sized snake. Maybe someone’s pet that got loose?”

It is not the first time a creature has washed up on an Ayrshire beach.

In December, a basking shark washed ashore at Maidens before a minke whale was found at Irvine beach.

North Ayrshire Council have been contacted for comment.
